Justice Department, eBay settle antitrust lawsuit

(Associated Press Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WASHINGTON (AP) — Online auction site eBay has settled a Justice Department lawsuit accusing it of anticompetitive employee recruiting practices.

The settlement resolves a 2012 lawsuit. It accused eBay of having an agreement with the Intuit software company preventing each firm from recruiting the other's employees. The deal would bar eBay from enforcing any agreement that restricts recruitment or hiring of employees.

The head of the Justice Department's Antitrust Division says the only purpose of the agreement with Intuit was to limit competition between the two companies. He says the deal caused workers to lose opportunities for better jobs and higher pay.

Intuit is not a defendant in the case because it is already subject to a similar consent decree.
