Towle was elected chief executive officer of Fidelity State Bank & Trust at its annual meeting on April 10. Towle, who has been with Fidelity since August 1996, joined the bank as a senior consumer officer, advanced to oversee all lending and then was named president in April 2009. He will retain the responsibilities of president. Towle started his banking career as an examiner for the Kansas State Bank Commissioner for seven years, followed by a lending position for a bank in Olathe for four years prior to joining Fidelity. NEW FACES Ryan Hellmer has been named trust officer at CoreFirst Bank & Trust, while Leslie Bosch and Mindy Hardenbrook also have joined the company. Hellmer, who received his law degree from Washburn University, most recently was a lawyer with Goodell, Stratton, Edmonds & Palmer. He will be responsible for trust, bond and investment account administration. Bosch, previously at Payless ShoeSource, joined CoreFirst as an assistant vice president, while Hardenbrook, formerly with Landmark Bank in Oklahoma, joined as loan operations officer. J. Kent Eckles has been named executive director of the Kansas Petroleum Council. Eckles joins KPC after serving as vice president of government affairs with the Kansas Chamber for six years. He also has experience directing the East Central Region for the Kansas Department of Commerce, and coordinating the U.S. Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission. NAMES Ken Schmanke has joined CBRE as a commercial sales and leasing professional in Topeka and northeast Kansas. Schmanke has more than 25 years of commercial real estate leasing, sales and management experience in the Topeka market. In 1996, he founded and was president of KS Commercial Real Estate Services. Kurt Scott, president and chief executive officer of Kansas Medical Mutual Insurance Co., recently was elected to the board of directors of Fidelity State Bank & Trust. RECOGNITION Tammy Botkin, of Torgeson Electric in Topeka, was named the National Association of Women in Construction Region 6 Member of the Year on April 5 at the organization's annual forum in Kansas City, Mo. Botkin was honored for her 15 years of service to the NAWIC on the local, regional and national level. She has served four terms as president of the Topeka Chapter of NAWIC and has held all other chapter offices. She also has served as the Region 6 secretary for two years. Michele Flanagan, a composer, keyboardist and vocalist from Topeka, recently was awarded first place in the formal category at the Kansas Soundscapes Composition Competition in Winfield for her orchestral score, "Caper of the Blue-Ringed Dancer." She also placed third in formal for her jazz piece, "Last Christmas," and third in the songwriting category for her song, "Dead Man on My Floor." The competition is sponsored by the Winfield Arts & Humanities Council. The Jerry Brosius Team, of Prudential First, Realtors in Topeka, received a third place award for residential units for the fourth quarter from Prudential Real Estate Network & Relocation Services, while Prudential First, Realtors overall received a third place award for gross commission income for the same time period. MISC. The Topeka Presbyterian Manor, along with the employees of its parent company, Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America, celebrated 65 years of the Art of Life this week while simultaneously celebrating the organization's Founder's Day. The YWCA of Topeka Center for Safety and Empowerment has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Payless ShoeSource Foundation.
