'My pants are firmly on the inside now!' ; E YORKS:Health trust boss sends frank email as he steps down [Hull Daily Mail (England)]

(Hull Daily Mail (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) InShort Phil Morley, the man who was in charge of Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital, wrote a leaving letter to staff. He thanked them for their hard work.

A CONTROVERSIAL health boss who once dressed up as Superman for a staff video reassured staff "my underpants are firmly on the inside now" when announcing his departure.

Phil Morley, the chief executive of Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, wrote a frank letter to staff on Thursday evening.

Many of the employees who have taken the Easter bank holidays off won't have read the candid email yet, but a copy has been leaked to the Mail.

He wrote: "This will be my last message to you all as your chief executive and I still believe in Great Staff, Great Care, Great Future.

"It has been an absolute pleasure to have served you for nearly four years, to have seen many of you face-to-face, to have shared the highs, the lows, the tears, the heartache, and also moments of magic you create every single day.

"My job is one I treasure and I leave you all with sadness and a sense of unfinished business.

"You have made my days, months, my years ones of great joy.

"I shall miss the amazing work you do, the compassion you pour out day by day.

"I shall miss not only the iconic Humber Bridge but our iconic hospitals - that stand for quality, care and lives saved." Mr Morley, who has worked at the trust since October 2010, thanked staff for all their hard work.

He wrote: "We have done so much over the last years to change people's perceptions of Hull, the care we give, the quality that patients receive.

"You have made me so very proud.

I leave behind an organisation on the brink of becoming one of the best hospitals in England.

"Hold your heads high - you, our great staff.

"Celebrate the value you give, your great care, and meet the challenges of tomorrow, confident in your great future." The former trust boss, who was in charge of Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital, has overseen many improvements during his career in East Yorkshire.

He listed some of the achievements, as well as apologising for the mistakes. He wrote: "I hope you will forgive me those things I got wrong, they were meant with the best of intentions. "My underpants are firmly on the inside now.

"And I would hope, some of you will think well of me and wish me success, whilst you smile at the changes we made together.

"Remember - the lottery, the Golden Hearts, Link Listeners, Big Conversation, Pioneer Teams, Great Leaders, the flex day, moments of magic, long-service events, full-year attendance awards and many more, oh and don't forget car parking!" He ended the email saying he will still follow the progress of the hospital.

He said: "It has been an honour. I am and always will be a loyal friend and admirer of Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals.

"Affectionately, Phil Morley." ? Opinion: Page 10 Follow Emma on Twitter @HDMemmawright Interim chief is named INTERIM chairman Dr Keith Hopkins, who takes over from Rob Deri, also sent out a message to staff alongside Mr Morley's email.

He said: "In light of Phil's announcement today that he will be moving on from the trust I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that with effect from April 22, 2014, John Saxby, former chief executive of Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, will take up the post of interim chief executive.

"The recruitment process to appoint a substantive chief executive will begin with immediate effect. "I would also like to confirm I am very pleased to have accepted the role of interim chairman at the trust.

"I would like to thank Phil for all of his work with us since he joined the trust in 2010.

"His vision of Great Staff, Great Care and Great Future has always been at the heart of his approach with the trust enabling staff to lead changes and improve the care we provide for our patients.

"I'm sure everyone will join me in wishing Phil all the best for the future and we hope we will be able to stay in touch with him." (c) 2014 ProQuest Information and Learning Company; All Rights Reserved.
