Silver Spring Networks' Smart Street Light Solution Named American Technology Awards Finalist

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Today, on "Global Internet of Things Day," Silver Spring Networks, Inc. (NYSE: SSNI) announced that its smart street light solution has been named an American Technology (News - Alert) Awards finalist by the TechAmerica Foundation. Silver Spring's IPv6 networking platform for the Internet of Things has networked more than 18 million homes and businesses for smart grid networks on five continents, and is connecting street lights and traffic control systems in iconic cities such as Copenhagen, Miami, and Paris.

"We're thrilled to celebrate Global Internet of Things Day with this recognition for our smart street lights solution. For more than a decade, Silver Spring has focused on building out some of the world's largest outdoor, IPv6-based, machine-to-machine (M2M) networks," said Sterling Hughes (News - Alert), Senior Director of Advanced Technology, Silver Spring Networks. "We're proud to receive this industry acknowledgement for our smart street light solution which is helping cities to lower their energy consumption, create a platform to deploy additional Smart City applications for their citizens, and help accelerate economic and social development."

Silver Spring's smart street light solution enables city and utility lighting operators to reduce energy costs, increase operational savings, improve public safety, and establish a network canopy that can be leveraged to deliver additional Smart City applications such as electric vehicle charging, traffic control, environmental sensors, energy metering, and more. Florida Power & Light plans to deploy Silver Spring's wireless IPv6 mesh networking technology and management and control software to connect and control 75,000 street lights in the Miami-Dade County region, the largest networked street light deployment under contract in North America. In Paris, Silver Spring has been selcted for an advanced street lighting and traffic controls program as the city seeks to reduce its public lighting energy consumption by 30% over the next 10 years. Copenhagen, often referred to as the world's most sustainable city, is looking to Silver Spring to deploy a citywide canopy network to connect more than 20,000 street lights.
