Research and Markets: Lowering the Barriers to VDI Adoption

DUBLIN --(Business Wire)--

Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/5wp7bg/lowering_the) has announced the addition of the "Lowering the Barriers to VDI Adoption" report to their offering.

In this SPIE, there is an examination of the design elements included in the desktop virtualization products offered by Virtual Bridges, and how those elements address questions about VDI adoption.

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) professes several appealing attributes relative to traditional physical desktops. Among the most appealing are:

  • Lessen Management Burdens - Rather than managing dispersed hardware (i.e., client devices) and their individually assigned desktops (operating system, applications, profiles, and files), IT-standardized virtual desktops are managed centrally and hosted in one or more data centers. Instead of provisioning an managing individual client devices, IT focuses more on managing and hardening the desktop-hosting environment and the virtual desktops.
  • With the desktop-hosting environment within its constant and direct control, break-fix desktop management issues associated with traditional physical desktops are lessened. Moreover, if the virtual desktop becomes corrupted in-session, the golden image (OS, applications, and profile) restores a pristine version in the next session.
  • Reduce Data Loss Risk - With the virtual desktops hosted in IT-controlled environments, and only pixels of the virtual desktops appearing on client devices, the surface exposure of data loss is less than traditional desktops where the data resides in the client hardware. Also with VDI, the cost of a lost or stolen laptop, tablet, or smartphone is limited to the replacement cost of the device and the end user's lost productivity until a suitable client device becomes available. In this scenario, the soft but nevertheless material data breach costs (e.g., assessing the magnitude of data loss, informing and compensating affected parties, dealing with public fallout, and potentially paying data breach fines) are not as prevalent, since no data is out in the wild. Sensitive data never physically leaves the confines of the IT-controlled data centers.
  • Support Prevailing Consumerization Information Technology Trends - Considering that the desktop in server-hosted VDI is similar to an app, albeit a super-sized app, the common tap-to-use app motion from any device, including end users' owned devices (i.e., BYOD), over any network, is supported.
