Sierra Vista hospital names new chief operating officer [The Tribune (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) :: ]

(Tribune (San Luis Obispo, CA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) April 04--Ikenna "Ike" Mmeje has been named chief operating officer at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, effective Monday. He succeeds Joe DeSchryver, who was promoted to chief executive officer.

Mmeje (pronounced May-jay) will be responsible for overseeing the hospital's daily operations and ancillary departments such as pathology, radiology, pharmacy and plant operations, according to a hospital news release. He "has the proven ability to manage a complex organization in a results-driven manner while at the same time focusing on providing optimal outcomes and exceptional patient experiences," DeSchryver said in the release.

Mmeje has worked the past seven years at Sutter Health-Alta Bates Medical Center in Oakland, including the past two as administrative director of clinical and research services. Before that, he spent four years as director of operations at REDI, the East Bay AIDS Center. He also completed a one-year administrative fellowship with Sutter Health, the release said.

He has a bachelor of arts in public health and social welfare from UC Berkeley and a master's of health services administration degree from the University of Michigan's School of Public Health.

Sierra Vista, with 164 beds, is the largest hospital in San Luis Obispo County. With nearly 800 employees it's the largest private employer in SLO and the second largest private employer in SLO County. It has been serving the community since 1959.
