Monotype Announces Changes to Its Board of Directors

WOBURN, Mass. --(Business Wire)--

Monotype Imaging (News - Alert) Holdings Inc. (Nasdaq:TYPE), a leading provider of typefaces, technology and expertise for creative applications and consumer devices, today announced changes to its board of directors. Monotype cofounder and former president and chief executive officer, Robert M. Givens, who has served as chairman since November, 2006, is retiring as of the day following Monotype's 2014 annual meeting of shareholders, which is expected to take place on May 5, 2014. After his retirement, Givens will hold the title of chairman emeritus. Robert L. Lentz, a member of Monotype's board of directors since August 2008, has been appointed chairman of the board, and will assume these responsibilities at the time of Givens' retirement.

In 1986, Givens, together with the current president and chief executive officer, Douglas J. Shaw, founded the business that would eventually become Monotype, growing it from a small organization to a publicly traded company in 2007, now with annual revenues of $166.6 million and 350 employees worldwide.

"Our position as an industry leader is in large part due to Bob's steady guidance, deep commitment and unwavering belief in the business," said Shaw. "Bob was the central force in building the Monotype culture that highly values our customers, employees and their families. I couldn't ask for a better mentor and friend. Speaking on behalf of everyone at Monotype, we're grateful for what he's done and will do our best to make sure he's close to Monotype for years to come."

"I have great admiration for the men and women of Monotype who have grown this company into one of international acclaim and respect," said Givens. "It has been my privilege to support and serve both them - the employees - and the customers. I also have great confidence in Doug and the executive team to continue to build Monotype and to pursue excellence in ll they do."

"Looking ahead, we're excited that our new chairman is Bob Lentz, whose deep operational knowledge and strategic acumen have been significant assets to Monotype," Shaw said. "Working with Bob, we look forward to the next chapters in Monotype's history, as we continue to focus on helping customers to ensure brand integrity and the best user experience."

"I'm honored to be named chairman and it is special to be part of such an incredible team," said Lentz. "Monotype has been a leader in providing the typefaces, technology and expertise that are vital for brands to communicate consistently and clearly across every consumer touch point. I look forward to contributing to Monotype's future growth and direction."

Since July 2012, Lentz has been an adjunct professor and the entrepreneur in residence for Northeastern University's Center for Entrepreneurship Education.┬áLentz has served as an independent consultant from March 2009 to June 2012; as the interim chief executive officer of Digital Reef, Inc.; and as the interim chief executive officer of the Managed Analytics Business of Deloitte (News - Alert) Consulting. Prior to that, he was president and chief executive officer of Permission TV, Inc., an online video platform provider.
