GTA to Invest $10 Million in Network Upgrades

TAMUNING, Guam --(Business Wire)--

GTA (News - Alert) announced today it plans to invest approximately $10 million in network upgrades to further improve the communications experience it offers its customers. The upgrades will also help GTA serve the increasing demand for its quad-play offerings.

"On the wireless side of the business alone, data usage grew three-fold in 2013," said GTA President and CEO Robert Haulbrook. "As the leading smartphone provider, and with 82% of our postpaid wireless customers using smartphones, we are likely to see data usage continue to grow."

In October 2013, GTA launched 4G LTE (News - Alert) to serve the increased demand for data service from its large smartphone subscriber base.

GTA's planned wireless network upgrades, some of which are already underway, include adding additional 3G and 4G LTE cellular sites to its network, increasing core network capacity, implementing LTE roaming, and acquiring additional spectrum. Those upgrades will allow GTA to serve more customers with faster speeds while continuing to improve the quality and reliability of its wireless network.

GA is also investing in upgrades to strengthen the Internet backbone to the U.S. and expand its DSL coverage and offerings.

The planned $10 million adds to the more than $90 million GTA has invested in network enhancements since becoming privatized in 2005. During this period GTA has expanded its service offerings, becoming a major quad-player in the island and a leading provider of communications services to the U.S. military.

"These investments reflect our commitment to serving Guam's business, residential, and government/military customers with a world-class experience," said Haulbrook.
