Third Annual Senior Living Art Showcase Opens for Submissions

ALEXANDRIA, Va. --(Business Wire)--

The Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA) in partnership with Sargent Art is excited to launch the 3rd annual ALFA 2014 Senior Living Art Showcase, a competition recognizing the tremendous talent of senior living residents and the powerful resident activity programs at senior living communities across the country.

We encourage resident activity directors and executive directors to unite residents in a creative group project to demonstrate the "community" environment at their senior living residences.

"Art is a powerful tool for residents to enjoy, experience and share," says Sargent Art Program Manager Bhakti Oza. "It is vital that communities incorporate programs that encourage artistic exploration. As always, we are glad to bring our expertise of the medium to this competition."

Each senior living community may submit one digital photograph of a piece of artwork created by the joint effots of at least three residents. Six communities that best engage residents in interpreting the 2014 theme, "It's the little things that matter most," will win art parties and art supplies generously donated by multi-year showcase sponsor, Sargent Art.

"Through ALFA's art showcase, we celebrate the many robust social activities and engagement programs that maintain and improve the mental and physical well-being of seniors," says Rick Grimes, ALFA president and CEO. "Our members are dedicated to their residents, families and team members and work tirelessly every day to provide an active and engaging day in a safe, independent and life-enriching environment."

Digital artwork submissions will be accepted through April 11, 2014. Images of entries best representing the theme will be uploaded onto ALFA's Facebook page, where artists, their families and friends, as well as the general public can "like" their work. These "likes" will count as votes, and the top three works of art will be selected as Fan Favorite winners. Three Grand Prize winners also will be chosen, based on adherence to theme.

The winning artworks will be honored at the ALFA 2014 Conference & Expo, May 19-22, 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona. To learn more about the ALFA Senior Living Art Showcase, visit alfa.org/art. For more information about the ALFA 2014 Conference & Expo, visit alfa.org/conference.
