One-day-old suffers burns while given bath by nurse [Mumbai] [Times of India]

(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) MUMBAI: A one-day-old baby, born in Al Saqid Nursing Home in the Pydhonie area, suffered 10% burns while being given a bath by a nursing attendant early on Saturday.

The nursing home has filed a negligence case against the hospital staff. "The nursing attendant gave bath to two other infants with the same water. She then bathed this baby boy, who immediately developed blisters," said Dinesh Ahire, senior inspector of the Pydhonie police station.

The baby's father, Mahim resident Shabbir Saher, told TOI that he had filed a complaint with the police after the accident. "Following the incident, I moved my wife and child to Saboo Siddik Hospital in Nagpada," said Saher, who works with a telecom company. "Doctors here have performed plastic surgery on legs and thighs that suffered burns," Saher added.

"The doctors told me that he was stable and better," said the father. Ahire said that the police would call the nursing attendant for questioning and might arrest her, if needed. When calls were made to the Al Saqid Nursing Home, the staff on duty confirmed that accident.
