Governor Brown Announces Appointments(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SACRAMENTO, Calif., March 5 -- Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr., D-Calif., issued the following news release: Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments. Carrie Bowen, 54, of Stockton, has been appointed to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board of Directors, where she has served since 2013, the Ventura County Transportation Commission, where she has served since 2013, and the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority Board of Directors. Bowen has served in multiple positions at the California Department of Transportation District 7 since 2013, including director and acting director. She was director of the California Department of Transportation District 10 from 2011 to 2013 and California High-Speed Rail Authority, Central California regional director from 2009 to 2010. Bowen served in multiple positions at the California Department of Transportation from 1992 to 2009, including office chief and deputy district director at the Central Region Environmental Division, chief of the central region and associate environmental planner in the Environmental Project Management Branch. She was a manager and legislative aide for California Assemblymember Jim Costa from 1985 to 1991 and a substitute teacher for the Coalinga Unified School District from 1983 to 1985. These positions do not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Bowen is a Democrat. Ann MacKenzie, 62, of Crockett, has been appointed to the California Healthcare Workforce Policy Commission. MacKenzie has held multiple positions at the Permanente Medical Group since 1975, including women's health nurse practitioner, nurse practitioner quality liaison and registered nurse. She is a member of the California Nurses Association, the National Nurses United and the Association of Reproductive Health Professionals. MacKenzie earned a Nurse Practitioner Certificate from San Jose State University. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. MacKenzie is a Democrat. Donald Veverka, 66, of Port Orchard, WA, has been appointed administrator of the Veterans Home of California, Yountville. Veverka has been superintendent and administrator at the Washington Veterans Home since 2011. He was executive director at Oak Lane Retirement from 2008 to 2011, senior consultant and operations manager at Paradigm Senior Living from 2003 to 2006 and executive director at the Necanicum Village Retirement Community from 2002 to 2003. Veverka was administrator at the Peoples Retirement Community from 2000 to 2001, vice president of business development at Donald P. Maynes and Associates from 1998 to 2000 and a marketing representative for John Hancock from 1996 to 1998. He was administrator and consultant in private practice from 1992 to 1996 and owner and administrator at Care Centers West Inc. from 1982 to 1992. Veverka was administrator at the Torrey Pines Convalescent Hospital from 1978 to 1981 and at the TLC Convalescent Hospital from 1977 to 1978. He served as a medical corpsman in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $140,040. Veverka is a Democrat.
