Unicon Selected by IlliniCloud for Illinois Statewide Portal Implementation

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) (PRWEB) March 04, 2014 Unicon, Inc., a leading IT consulting, services, and support provider specializing in open source for the education technology market, today announced that it has been selected by IlliniCloud to develop and implement the K12 AppPortal, which enables K12 school districts in Illinois to adopt federated applications and services. The K12 AppPortal is part of a larger project to implement interfaces and implementation strategies supporting local systems and private/public cloud services, so school districts can meet the challenges of delivering personalized learning.

“The K12 AppPortal is a critical building block in establishing a federated identity management system for K12 school districts in Illinois,” said Jim Peterson, Chief Technology Officer, IlliniCloud. “The portal will serve as the central hub for applications and services, while providing a federated single sign-on experience.” Unicon will develop the K12 AppPortal with Apereo’s uPortal, a free and open source enterprise portal built by higher education. The main function of the portal is to give each school district the ability to present personalized content through applications integrated with the portal. The portal will provide a foundation for school districts to present a variety of applications and services with a potential to provide a rich single sign-on user experience.

“Unicon is proud to be working with IlliniCloud on the K12 AppPortal, and is looking forward to the positive impact the portal will have on the way school districts in Illinois deliver content and services to their students and staff,” said John C. Blakley, Chief Executive Officer, Unicon, Inc.
