Industry Analyst Jeff Kagan on Sprint Softbank Direction So Far

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) March 02, 2014 Sprint lost another executive according to Reuters, Mar. 1, however Industry analyst Jeff Kagan says, “I think today it’s more important to look at Sprint for it’s longer-term growth opportunity to impact and change the wireless industry, than any short-term event. They are focused on something much bigger and more long-term in the wireless industry.” After Softbank acquired a majority position in Sprint last year everything went quiet. Industry watchers knew Softbank wanted to remake Sprint to a very new kind of company. Knew it would spend a fortune to make it so. And knew it would take time. However no one knew what the new Sprint would look like going forward or when it would emerge.

“We still don’t know exactly what the new Sprint will look like and when it will be completed, but we are starting to see several very interesting signs and that is good. Not only is Softbank reinventing Sprint, but the two of them have an interest in other acquisitions in the US marketplace as well. T-Mobile is one of them. I have said all along, since the deal with Softbank we must now be patient and wait for the new Sprint to emerge,” says wireless analyst Kagan.

“Will Sprint and Softbank be successful at acquiring T-Mobile? No one knows yet. The early indications are there is pushback against the idea. However there was also pushback against the deal with Sprint if you recall. Softbank CEO Masayoshi Son met with US regulators and agreed to play buy their rules. Bottom line, Softbank was allowed to merge with Sprint. So the same thing could happen with T-Mobile. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens next,” says Tech analyst Kagan.

“The best way to describe what is happening today is after getting together with Softbank last summer, Sprint the caterpillar wrapped itself in a cocoon and started its metamorphosous. When it breaks out Sprint should be a butterfly ready to fly. A completely new and different company. Currently Sprint is going through its transformation,” says principal analyst Kagan.

“There is much more to discuss as always, but generally speaking I like the direction the new Sprint Softbank is heading so far. I still don’t have a perfectly clear vision of what the new company will be when it grows up. However I do know they are tearing out all the old technology and replacing it with new, state of the art technology. I do know that will give them a new network with plenty of potential. So we’ll just have to keep our eyes on them. This game is just getting started,” says Kagan.
