BRIEF: Jacksonville man pleads guilty to distributing child porn [The Florida Times-Union, Jacksonville :: ]

(Florida Times-Union (Jacksonville, FL) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Feb. 25--A 25-year-old man pleaded guilty Monday to distribution of child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Sean-Michael Smith faces up to 20 years in federal prison, but a sentencing date has not been set, prosecutors said.

The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office was investigating computer users who distributed child pornography via an Internet-sharing network in July when a detective downloaded three videos depicting minors engaging in sexually explicit acts, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. A search turned up Smith's name registered to the files, and the FBI obtained a search warrant for his home.

On Aug. 2, Smith admitted to downloading and viewing child pornography for 10 years, including one of the videos downloaded by the detective a month earlier, prosecutors said. The content was available for downloading by other users as long as the file-sharing program on his computer was active.
