Open Networking Summit 2014 Announces Speaker Lineup for Plenary Sessions

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Menlo Park, CA (PRWEB) February 21, 2014 Open Networking Summits, Inc. (ONS) represents the industry’s premier and only non-profit conference that brings together the entire networking ecosystem to discuss advances in software-defined networking (SDN), OpenFlow, and network functions virtualization (NFV).

The fourth annual ONS will be held March 3-5, 2014, in the heart of Silicon Valley, at the Santa Clara Convention Center and Hyatt Regency.

ONS is leading the transformation in networking, bringing together the extended ecosystem to advance the understanding of what is being deployed today and what the networks of the future will look like tomorrow. The historically sold-out conference will be expanded in 2014 to accommodate increasing demands from customers, operators, architects, vendors, executives, researchers, developers, and investors.

Five Plenary sessions will be presented by esteemed speakers: SDN for Cloud 1) Yukio Ito, Director, Member of the Board, Senior VP Service Infrastructure, NTT Communications o    Ito-san will present how NTT Communication has been accelerating its development and deployment of OpenFlow/SDN in datacenter, inter-datacenter, and its global network and accelerating SDN enabled new services to its enterprise customers.

2) Martin Casado, CTO of Networking, VMware o    Martìn Casado, one of the fathers of SDN, will talk about SDN and network virtualization in practice, and how users are pushing the technology with cool, new use cases.

3) Larry Peterson, Chief Architect, Open Networking Lab o    Larry will describe OpenCloud -- an operational data center to edge cloud being deployed by the Open Networking Lab -- and how it is being used to experiment with cutting edge SDN and NFV technology.

4) Francois Locoh-Donou, Senior VP, Global Products Group, Ciena Corporation o    Francois will show that SDN is key to closing the “agility gap” that stands in the way of service providers’ transformations to information-driven business models, and offer a view of Ciena solutions that will support and enable such transformations.

Bare Metal Switching and Programming 1) Shrijeet Mukherjee, VP of Software Engineering, Cumulus Networks o    Shrijeet will discuss how open hardware platforms are providing customers with freedom to define their networks with software.

2) Rob Sherwood, CTO, Big Switch o    Rob will talk about the benefits of combing SDN with bare metal switches and demonstrate the results in Big Switch Network's upcoming Unified 'P+V' Cloud Fabric product.

3) Jennifer Rexford, Gordon Y.S. Wu Professor of Computer Science, Princeton University o    Jennifer will present a proposal for how the OpenFlow API can evolve in the future to be protocol-independent, target-independent, and support reconfiguration in the field.

SDN for Cellular Networks 1) Sanqi Li, CTO, Carrier Network BG, Huawei o    Sanqi Li from Huawei will present SDN based solutions for LTE Evolved Packet Core Networks and how carriers plan to use these solutions.

2) Kazuya Hashimoto, Executive Vice President, NEC Europe Ltd.

o    Kazuya Hashimoto of NEC will talk about SDN for mobile cellular networks and will share actual design and deployment experiences.

3) Vish Nandlall, CTO and Head of Marketing & Strategy, Ericsson North America o    Vish Nandlall’s talk will walk through the details of how SDN is being deployed to deliver this new and growing service opportunity.

SDN Technology, Experiences, Standards 1) Carl Moberg, VP of Technology, Tail-f Systems o    Carl is presenting lessons learned from building a managed security solution, based on Openflow, for a large Asian operator. He will describe the methodology used for building the Openflow-based traffic steering application and how it is integrated into a complete service chaining solution involving third-party L4-L7 security appliances.

2) John Healy, GM of SDN Division, Intel Communication and Storage Infrastructure Group o    John Healy from Intel will talk about the evolution of the switch, server and open source projects needed for tomorrow’s SDN and NFV workloads.

3) Matthew Liste, Managing Director, Core Platform Engineering, Goldman Sachs 4) Dan Pitt, Executive Director, Open Networking Foundation o    Dan will reveal the 2014 initiatives of the Open Networking Foundation and a few other juicy secrets. He will also explain the meaning of "open" in open networking, and where it's best to have de jure standards, de facto standards, and no standards.

SDN Deployment Experiences 1) David Ward, Senior VP Development, CTO and Chief Architect, Cisco Systems Inc.

o    Customer deployments and use-cases will take center stage as Dave does a deep-dive on SDN, key advantages and how to deliver more open and programmable solutions.

2) Sarwar Raza, Director, Cloud Networking and SDN, HP Networking, Hewlett Packard Company o    Sarwar will focus on the potential and future of Application Directed Networks enabled by SDN.

3) Craig Elliot, CEO and Co-Founder, Pertino o    Craig will talk about how SMBs are building their software defined enterprise networks in the cloud.

Over the past three years, ONS has showcased the most SDN Exhibits under one roof, including exhibits from early adopters, vendors, startups, academia, and industry labs. In this year’s fourth annual event, ONS will have a larger exhibit floor to give attendees more room to interact with exhibitors demonstrating their solutions, discussing use cases, and collecting feedback to accelerate adoption of next-generation technologies.

ONS provides a valuable forum for networking opportunities for everyone across the ecosystem to mingle and discuss their ideas – from start-ups and investors to established vendors; from technologists to business executives; from researchers to practitioners; from carriers to enterprises and government agencies; and a wide variety of business and technology journalists and analysts.

About Open Networking Summit (ONS): With a mission to transform networking, the non-profit ONS is exclusively committed to bringing together the thought leaders, luminaries, creators, and innovators of SDN and OpenFlow to lead the development of the networks of tomorrow. Founded in 2011, ONS produces conferences that attract participants from around the world, who come to discuss, share and shape the future of networking. Through exhibitions, demonstrations, visionary talks, technology tutorials and networking opportunities, ONS helps facilitate the understanding and dialogues that drive the advancements and adoption of new networking technologies.
