Good turnout at Sg Siput health programme [New Straits Time (Malaysia)]

(New Straits Time (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SUNGAI SIPUT: The two-day " Sayangi Jantung Anda" medical outreach programme attracted thousands of people, who took the opportunity to have their health checked by doctors.

Jointly organised by Briged Sukarelawan Media Prima-NSTP and Institut Jantung Negara (IJN), the programme also received the support of Yayasan 1MDB.

The programme was held at Dewan Majlis Perbandaran Sungai Siput here yesterday.

Today, it will be held at Dewan Bola Keranjang in Pekan Karai here.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya, who launched the event, said the ministry encouraged such programmes.

"If we have the resources, we will conduct similar health checks for everyone in view of the increase in non-communicable diseases in the country," he said, adding that for every case that was detected, there were many more that went unchecked.

Present was Media Prima Bhd corporate social responsibility group adviser Datuk Ahmad A. Talib.

IJN chief operating officer Akmal Arief Mohamed Fauzi said the programme was the sixth to be held since its launch in 2012.

"Prevention is better than cure. Treatment costs will be lower if diseases are detected earlier," he said, adding that IJN had noticed an increase in visitors for its programmes.

"It shows people are more aware of getting their health checked." Yayasan 1MDB corporate social responsibility programme director Datuk Dr Shamsul Anwar Sulaiman said the foundation would be donating a bus to IJN for its use for such programmes.
