$3 Million Funding Available for Secure and Trustworthy Cyberspace

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) by VARALAKSHMI PULUGURTHA Targeted News Service WASHINGTON, Feb. 8 -- The U.S. National Science Foundation has announced that it expects to award a maximum of six discretionary grants to develop techniques that mitigate vulnerabilities and make systems that are resistant to attack or tampering.

The estimated total program funding available was cited as $3 million.

This funding opportunity is open to any entity such as state, county, city, township and special district governments; Native American tribal governments and organizations; institutions of higher education; Historically Black Colleges and Universities; Tribally Controlled Colleges and Universities; nonprofits; for profit organizations; small businesses; eligible agencies of the federal government; and faith-based or community-based organizations.

A funding opportunity notice from the NSF states: "Through this solicitation -- a track within the NSF SaTC [Secure and Trustworthy Cyberspace] program -- NSF and the Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) are announcing a joint partnership in the area of Secure, Trustworthy, Assured and Resilient Semiconductors and Systems (SaTC: STARSS) focused on research on Design for Assurance. NSF and SRC will support research on new strategies for architecture, specification and verification, especially at the stages of design in which formal methods are currently weak or absent, with the aim of decreasing the likelihood of unintended behavior or access, increasing resistance and resilience to tampering and improving the ability to provide authentication throughout the supply chain and in the field." The funding opportunity number is 14-528 (CFDA Nos. 47.041 & 47.070). The application closing date is March 26.
