Silver Spring Networks Congratulates Customers Florida Power & Light and Sacramento Municipal Utility District on POWERGRID International Awards

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Silver Spring Networks, Inc. (NYSE:SSNI), a leading networking platform and solutions provider for smart energy networks, today congratulated its customers Florida Power & Light (FPL) and Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD (News - Alert)) for their recognition at the annual POWERGRID International Awards at the DistribuTECH 2014 Conference & Exhibition. FPL won the Smart Grid Program of the Year award for its 'Reaping the Benefits of the Smart Grid' program. John Di Stasio, GM and CEO of Sacramento Municipal Utility District, was also honored with the Large Utility CEO of the Year award.

"We are honored to see our customers receive the recognition they deserve for their vision and industry leadership," said Scott Lang, Chairman, President and CEO, Silver Spring Networks. "We are committed to helping our customers leverage some of the industry's most advanced networking technology to continue unlocking more value from their smart grid investments, further empowering their consumers, and increasing grid efficiency and reliability."

FPL and SMUD join Silver Spring customer Oklahoma Gas & Electric (OG&E), which was also recently recognized by energy think tank VaasaETT as having the world's highest-ranked smart grid project and by the Edison Electric Institute with their 2013 Edison Award, the electric power industry's most prestigious honor. Through October of 2013, OG&E's Smart Hours program has enrolled more than 80,000 customers, achieved 123 megawatts of load reduction capacity, and delivered average bill savings of about $150 per participating residential custoer.

FPL's 'Reaping the Benefits of the Smart Grid' program connected more than 4.5 million smart meters and 10,000 intelligent devices ahead of schedule, achieved $3.4 million in productivity savings and an average annual reduction of 4.3 million minutes of power interruptions, and made it possible for FPL to give its customers more control over their energy usage while providing more than 99.98 percent service reliability.

GM and CEO John Di Stasio leads the Sacramento Municipal Utility District, the nation's sixth largest municipally owned electric utility. SMUD's SmartSacramento Project involves system-wide Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) integrated with existing enterprise and IT systems, as well as advanced Distribution Automation capabilities and consumer empowerment programs that give SMUD's consumers more power and control over their energy consumption.
