Phantom Screens Consumer Research Reveals Homeowners' Preferences During Home Renovations

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Abbotsford, British Columbia (PRWEB) February 05, 2014 Phantom Screens, together with Concerto Marketing, conducted a North America wide consumer survey to learn about homeowners' preferences when upgrading or modernizing their homes. The findings reveal that a strong majority of homeowners see value in sprucing up their outdoor living areas, and choose quality over price when purchasing home improvement products.

“We asked a total of 810 consumers about reasons for updating their homes, the average amount spent on renovations, and items purchased to improve their homes,” notes Paul Ackah-Sanzah, senior marketing manager of Phantom Screens. “With 2 in 3 consumers having completed renovations or remodeled their homes within the last three years, the findings show that American homeowners seem to feel more confident in their plans to improve their homes. Taking pride in their homes, the majority selects highest quality items they can realistically afford, thereby notably placing more value on quality of products than just selecting the items solely based on price.” With 6 in 10 homeowners questioned for the survey often thinking about ways in which they can make their home look or feel better, the three most common and important features are the outdoor deck and patio, garage, and backyard with lawn/garden respectively.

Phil Kean, President of Phil Kean Design Group (http://philkeandesigns.com/) and WAYCOOL Homes, LLC, agrees with the findings. “Over the past eight years, indoor/outdoor living spaces have become a priority for the majority of our homeowners,” notes Kean. “Opening a home to the outdoors not only creates a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere; it also provides additional square footage for entertaining. Consumers understand these benefits, and are looking for homes that open family rooms, kitchens, beds and baths to the outdoors." Paul Ackah-Sanzah adds: “The outdoor living trend is definitely here to stay. Our products help homeowners make the most of their porches and patios, and during the last few years we have witnessed a solid growth in that category as people look to update not just their homes` interiors but also the outdoor areas.” Listing the living room and kitchen area as the parts of the home that both the US and Canadian consumers felt they were most proud of, most (7 in 10) agreed completely that it is very important to them the way their home looks. The survey also looked at the top sources of ideas and inspiration for home improvement and found 45% of consumers turning to home décor & design magazines, and 39% seeking inspiration from online sources.

Top findings of the survey:    •      4 in 5 consumers select the highest quality items they can realistically afford.

   •     Most Canadian and American consumers (7 in 10) take a lot of pride in the way their home looks.

   •     The three most common and important features and amenities within the home for both Canadian and US homeowners are the outdoor deck and patio, garage, and backyard with lawn/garden respectively.

   •     The living room and kitchen area were identified as the parts of the home that both groups of consumers felt they were most proud of.

   •     Nearly 2 in 3 consumers have renovated or remodelled their homes within the last few years. The average amount spent on renovations: between $15,000 and $20,000.

   •     The two most important reasons for renovating or remodelling are to modernize and to upgrade the home by adding higher quality materials.

About the Survey: The survey was administered by Phantom Screens and Concerto Marketing. The survey asked American and Canadian homeowners to rank their favourite living spaces in their homes, plus list renovation projects planned for 2014. The survey was fielded between October 26th and November 4th 2013.

A total of 810 consumers completed the survey which means this survey can be considered accurate to within plus or minus 3.3 percentage points, at 95 percent confidence.
