TechM plans to expand Malaysian ops [New Straits Time (Malaysia)]

(New Straits Time (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) KUALA LUMPUR: Tech Mahindra Ltd (TechM), the information technology (IT) outsourcing business of India's US$16.7 billion (RM55.61 billion) Mahindra group, is gearing up to expand its business in Malaysia on the back of a promising track record over the last three years.

According to its vice-president and enterprise business head for Asean, Ram Ramachandran, TechM's business in the country has almost doubled during the period.

"We have reaped an impressive growth from our business in Malaysia," he said, noting that the company's operation in the country has been growing at a steady rate of 25 to 30 per cent year- on-year.

Ram said TechM aims to double the size of its Malaysian operation by exploring and looking at both organic and inorganic growth in the next three years.

"Although we have no concrete expansion plans in the pipeline, we have an ambitious task of doubling our revenue," he said.

The company has set up a technology development and delivery facility called Global Solution Centre (GSC) in Cyberjaya.

GSC is the company's largest global development centre outside of India that serves as a major technological development and software support facility for global operations.

With Malaysia being its GSC, Ram said the team here services both regional and global customers.

"The biggest advantage here is the multilingual capability... Malaysia is a unique offshore destination to serve our global customers as well as attract global projects," he said.

TechM will also be launching a Centre of Excellence for Digital Enterprises in Malaysia in the next two or three quarters.

The centre will focus on the creation of intellectual property in the network, mobility, analytics, cloud and social (NMACS) space, as well as research and development activities.

"Stable workforce in the country, coupled with the right skills and talent, are among the main reasons we have chosen Malaysia," he said last Thursday.

Also present were the vice-president and head of Global Solution Centre (Malaysia) Sudhir Dhar and country manager Michael Ang.

Ram said out of the 600 employees the company has recruited, 70 per cent are locals.

The wokforce will be doubled by next year.

Currently, TechM contributes about 25 per cent to the Mahindra Group's earnings and it is expected to grow further in the next two years.
