NAMES Michel' Cole will join the executive team at Westar Energy on Feb. 17 as vice president of corporate communications and public affairs. Cole has nearly 30 years of experience in public relations, corporate communications and philanthropic strategy for a variety of organizations, including Goodyear, Fleishman-Hillard, Westar Energy, where she worked previously for 10 years as communications director, and most recently Security Benefit Corporation, where she served as vice president of corporate communications and brand strategy.

JuliAnn Mazachek has been appointed to the board of directors of Heritage Bank in Topeka. Mazachek is president and CEO of the Washburn University Foundation. She also currently serves on the board of directors of St. Francis Health Center, the Kansas Hospital Association, the Kansas District Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, Junior Achievement and the executive board of the Boy Scouts of America Jayhawk Area Council.


Brad Ridley recently was named commissioner for financial and information services at the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services. He most recently served as director of fiscal and program evaluation at KDADS, which he joined in 2003 as a management systems analyst.

NEW FACES Erika Devore, of Lawrence, recently became executive director of the Kansas Recreation and Park Association in Topeka. Devore previously was the executive director of the Asthma and Allergy Association of Kansas City for one year. She has extensive experience in healthy lifestyle initiatives, grant writing, fundraising and association management.

Adrian A. Caracioni, a hematologist/oncologist in Topeka since 2004, will be joining the medical staff at the St. Francis Health Comprehensive Cancer Center. Caracioni earned his medical degree from the Timisoara Medical School in Romania, completed residency at Arad County Hospital in Romania and Meridia Huron Hospital in Cleveland, and completed his fellowship at Saint Louis University in the Division of Bone Marrow Transplantation, Oncology and Hematology. He will begin seeing patients in early March.

RECOGNITION Cindy Robitaille, Jeremy Ignoto and Sharla Cochrane have received top honors from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas for outstanding performances during the third quarter of 2013. Cochrane was honored as the individual enrollment specialist, Robitaille as the outstanding small business account specialist, and Ignoto as the outstanding small business account representative.

Passow Remodeling in Topeka received an Angie's List Super Service Award for providing superior customer service in 2013 to members of the consumer review service. Super Service Award winners must have an "A" rating in overall grade, recent grade and review period grade.

Prudential First, Realtors in Topeka received third-place awards for residential units and for gross commission income for the third quarter in the Midwest region from Prudential Real Estate Network & Relocation Services.

ELSEWHERE Michael Artman, pediatrician-in-chief and chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Children's Mercy and chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, has been named to also serve as chair of the Department of Pediatrics at The University of Kansas School of Medicine. In addition, Children's Mercy is now designated a Principal Pediatric Teaching Hospital for The University of Kansas Medical Center.

Jason Gage, city manager for Salina, received the Buford M. Watson Jr. Award, and Bob Evans, the former city manager for Bonner Springs who later worked with the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kan., took home the Career Achievement Award at the Kansas Association of City/County Managers' annual conference. In addition, Nathan Law, Kiowa City administrator, and Jaime Shockley, a management intern in Olathe, were honored with Early Career Excellence Awards.

MISCELLANEOUS The registration deadline for the upcoming Lean Six Sigma: Yellow Belt organizational improvement course at Washburn University has been extended to Tuesday, Jan. 21.
