Woman techie loses sleep after pic found on porn site [DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India)]

(DNA : Daily News & Analysis (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) "A woman working with a software firm in Canada has become the latest victim of cyber crime. According to the complaint lodged by her with the Pune Cyber Crime Cell (CCC), somebody uploaded her photograph on a porn site. The woman had lived in Pune with her husband some time ago and suspects the mischief has happened here.

According to her complaint, her friend who resides in Pune, alerted her about the case last week following which, she and her husband came down to India and complained to the Pune police. Investigations have revealed that the suspects downloaded the victim's photo from a social networking site and morphed them.

Sources from CCC told dna, "The woman and her husband work with a software firm in Canada. She was working with a Pune-based software firm. A few months ago, her husband landed a job in Canada and the couple migrated. Recently, one of the victim's friends who lives in Pune informed her that her photograph has been uploaded on a porn site. Worried, she immediately cross-checked the photo on the site." They took the help of cyber experts who told them that the picture has been morphed before uploading on the porn site. "We have started our investigation and sent a report to the site to remove her photo. We have asked the site to provide the Internet Protocol (IP) address of the computer from which the photo was uploaded, so we can track the culprit," said an officer of the cell.

Cases related to social networking sites have increased drastically, observed senior police inspector Sarjerao Babar of CCC. "In many cases, we observed that a close friend, classmate or relative is the culprit and then the victims withdraw their cases. Our advice is to restrict sharing personal information or pictures on such social networking sites," he said.
