(Global Times Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) A local netizen recently posted a picture online showing that Shanghai Pudong New Area's AQI (air quality index) rose to a record high of 999 at 8 pm Wednesday, as detected by the area's environmental monitoring center. The post triggered heated discussion among Internet users, with many complaining that the district's air pollution was impossibly high, in stark contrast to the good air quality in other parts of the city that day. Staff with the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center later confirmed to local media that the unusually high AQI was caused by a technical malfunction and they had fixed the Pudong monitoring center's air detectors. From eastday.com (c) 2014 Global Times.
