Right to Work opponents step up fight with key ad buy in major Ohio markets

(PRNewsChannel.com Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Labor supporters ramp up efforts against the controversial GOP agenda PR NewsChannel COLUMBUS, Ohio Labor supporters have been hard at work over the holidays making sure ‘Workplace Freedom’ can't gain an inch with a new ad campaign in major Ohio markets.

The IUOE Local 18 union-backed advocacy group Keep Ohio’s Heritage purchased ads in crucial Ohio markets to keep the public educated on the dangers of Right to Work and ‘Workplace Freedom,’ something it calls nothing more than a trick by corporations to ram through measures that would bust the union.

Currently running in several key Ohio markets, including Columbus, Cincinnati and Cleveland, the new Middle Class Minute segments are designed to help the public understand what Right to Work would mean for Ohio’s workers.   “Even though we’ve had a tremendous amount of success recently, it would be foolish for us to rest on our laurels,” said Pat Sink, IUOE Local 18’s business manager. “We’re going to continue to educate the public on the issue and continue to earn Ohioans’ support as this fight drags on.” (Watch the clip online at: http://youtu.be/uKUUEPVO8Cw The current Middle Class Minute segment will air in these regions through Jan. 8.

Originally released last March in longer form, the Middle Class Minute videos have continually aimed to clarify any confusion on the controversial workplace issue.

Realizing backers of the amendment are using ambiguous names like “Workplace Freedom” and ‘Right to Work’ to describe itself, the videos were created to show workers across the state how the measure will irreparably harm Ohio, if passed.

Designed to be concise and informative, the 30-second ads bring much needed attention to the issue while directing viewers to the Keep Ohio’s Heritage website for more information.

Critics of the right to work initiatives have long believed advocates of the bill are trying to play to the misinformed, while portraying unions as the heavy handed, stereotypical organizations from America’s past.

The “Workplace Freedom” movement is an attempt to amend Ohio’s constitution, which critics say will take away workers’ rights and freedoms and allow business owners to lower worker pay, reduce worker benefits and ignore worker rights.

Opponents of the amendment believe the ‘Workplace Freedom’ initiative’s true purpose is to kill unions and worker protections, leading to a weaker middle class and is similar to movements enacted in communist countries like China.
