KenGen appoints new chairman to replace Mbathi [Business Daily (Kenya)]

(Business Daily (Kenya) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Kenya Electricity Generating Co., the country's biggest power producer, has appointed Joshua Choge as the chairman of the board, replacing Titus Mbathi who retired at the December 20, 2013 annual general meeting.

"The board of directors of KenGen at its meeting of Thursday January 2, 2014 appointed Joshua Kibet Choge as the chairman of the company," KenGen said in a statement on Friday.

He will serve for a term of three years "until he comes up for retirement and election by rotation under the Articles of Association of the company".

Mr Choge, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Statistics, is a trained accountant from Strathmore College and has also trained at the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply UK on procurement management.

"Mr Choge is an executive with over 15 years' experience in the public sector in various positions including purchasing manager and deputy chief auditor at East African Portland Cement," the company said.

He has served as a director at the Agriculture Finance Corporation where he is the immediate former deputy chairman of the board and chairman of the finance and business committee of the board.

The state-controlled company has also appointed National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich, Energy and Petroleum Principal Secretary Joseph Njoroge, Ziporah Ndegwa and Millicent Omanga to fill vacancies on the board.
