Microsoft Gulf donates $5m worth software [Khaleej Times (United Arab Emirates)]

(Khaleej Times (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Microsoft Gulf is offering more technical support as part of its Software Donation Programme to non-profit organisations in the UAE.

Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri, director of Charity Organisations, Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai (IACAD), said the IACAD had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Microsoft to use its Software Donation Programme as a key platform for its Emirates Charity e-Portal, which was launched at Gitex 2013.

He said through this partnership, nine non-profit organisations across the UAE received access to the latest Microsoft technology that will, in turn, enhance their abilities to serve the community.

In the first phase, he said, Microsoft donated $2 million worth of software to these charities and in the second, they will donate software worth $3 million to other charities in Dubai and across the UAE.

Organisations must be recognised as charitable organisations in their respective countries in order to be eligible for Microsoft's programme. Eligible organisations must have a mission to benefit the local community, which includes providing relief to the poor, advancing education, improving social welfare, preserving culture, preserving or restoring the environment, promoting human rights and establishment of civil society.
