70,000 visits for website ; In Brief [Hull Daily Mail (England)]

(Hull Daily Mail (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) EAST RIDING: The council's website received almost 70,000 visits over the festive period.

Topping the list of pages viewed were opening times for council- run venues, term dates for schools, calendars for bin collections and information about recycling Christmas waste.

More than half of the visits were via a smart phone or a tablet - up 16 per cent on last year.

Councillor Jonathan Owen, cabinet portfolio holder for transformation and strategic partnerships, said: "The council's website operated extremely well over the festive period, providing residents with a fast and reliable source of information about a variety of services. "The website is pioneering in its customer driven approach and continues to play a key role in the council's drive to improve and tailor service delivery in a digital age to those who can use such technology.

"Whilst realising some residents will always want a face-to-face approach, it has also been highly commended by the Society of Information Technology Management who regularly highlight it as an exemplar of best practice in public sector websites." There was a decrease in overall web page views, down by about 20,000 on the same period in 2012. The council says this is due to the milder weather and website improvements making the site easier to use, resulting in people clicking less to find information.
