Alcatel-Lucent to provide Japanese cable operator Tonami Satellite Communications Television with Ultra-Broadband Access solution
Nov 19, 2013 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- Alcatel-Lucent (EuronextParis and NYSE: ALU) is to upgrade the current access network of Japanese cableoperator Tonami Satellite Communications Television to become a 100 percentfiber infrastructure.
Using Alcatel-Lucent's GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) technology,Tonami will be able to dramatically increase its current highest 120Mbpsdownlink high-speed Internet access by a factor of up to 20 times, replacingits existing HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coax) network in the process. This will allowTonami to improve its triple-play (TV, data, voice) service to its 42,000customers in Tonami City.
Key Facts : Alcatel-Lucent and systems integration partner Itochu Cable Systems willsupply Tonami Cable with its industry-leading (ISAM) product family includingthe 7360ISAM FX and 5520Access Management System to support GPON-enabled fiber-to-the-home(FTTH).
Tonami will be the first Japanese cable operator to use Alcatel-Lucent's7360 ISAM FX GPON-based solution to bring ultra-high speed Internet service tothe homes of the citizens of Tonami bundled with voice and TV-services likeHD-TV.
Tonami is migrating from Hybrid Fiber Coax ( HFC) to high-speed GPON-based FTTH in Japan, enabling high Internetaccess speeds, more reliable than HFC.
