OSGP Alliance Demonstrates Benefits of Modern Smart Grid Standard to European Utility Week Attendees

AMSTERDAM, Oct. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The OSGP Alliance will offer attendees of European Utility Week 2013, which runs from October 15-17 in Amsterdam, the opportunity to learn how utilities are using the Open Smart Grid Protocol (OSGP) to create a more secure, reliable, and proven modern grid. OSGP Alliance members and supporters can be found in the OSGP Alliance Pavilion, booth number 1.C09.

Founded in 2006 as the Energy Services Network Association (ESNA), the OSGP Alliance is an independent global, not-for-profit association that promotes the adoption of OSGP and related services and infrastructure for smart grid applications. Members include utilities; software, hardware, and service providers; and solution integrators that share a common goal and vision for promoting open standards for energy demand-side management, smart grid, and smart metering systems.

OSGP is a family of specifications published by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), used in conjunction with the ISO/IEC 14908 control networking standard for smart grid applications. OSGP is optimized to securely provide reliable and efficient delivery of command and control information for smart meters, direct load control modules, solar panels, gateways, and other smart grid devices. With more than 4 million OSGP-based smart meters and devices deployed worldwide, it is one of the most widely used smart meter and smart grid device networking standards.

Hosted by platinum sponsors LG CNS and Echelon Corporation along with Ciac International Technologies, Giza Systems, Kapsch Smart Energy GmbH, Power Meter Technics (PTY) Ltd., and Ubitronix Solutions GmbH, the OSGP Alliance pavilion at European Utility Week 2013 will provide attendees with the opportunity to talk to industry experts and see first-hand demonstrations of multi-vendor smart grid interoperability using OSGP. In addition to products and services from the pavilion sponsors, the pavilion will exhibit smart electric meters, gas and water meter adapters, direct load control modules, in-home displays, and other devices that work with the OSGP ecosystem, from companies including Diehl Metering, ELO, Energy Aware, GEO, Gorlitz, Mitsubishi Electric, and Vidcom.

Those seeking more in-depth information can attend a free pre-conference seminar at European Utility Week 2013 entitled, "OSGP the Open Smart Grid Protocol - A flexible solution to reach interoperability between systems and parties connected to the Energy Infrastructure" on Monday, October 14, from 13.00 - 17.30 CET.
