Tatung and Shaspa announce the immediate availability of the next generation Smart Gateway

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 12 September 2013 Release date- 06092013 - Berlin - Today, Shaspa and Tatung, have achieved another milestone in their collaboration roadmap.

At the IFA event in Berlin a joint announcement was made about the immediate availability of the a new family of products for both residential and commercial properties.

he new solutions portfolio is powered by the IBM Informix suite of products enabling superior performance, predictive analysis and seamless integration into the IBM Service Delivery Platform. The innovative solution will allow consumers to manage and interact with the home's functions such as energy, security and entertainment systems, using voice recognition, mobile applications and physical gestures.

This announcement paves the foundation of a joint vision towards a smarter planet.

'We are excited for the future of smart gateway devices to empower smarter home applications. The optimization of Shaspa software with the IBM embedded Informix database is a winning combination to leverage the capability of our technology platform,' said W.Y. Lin, President of Tatung.

The first product based on this combination will be a low cost, scalable Smart Home starter kit for simple solutions. A Kit that is able to draw back on years of field experience to enable the service provider to drastically reduce the time to market for his custom project. The Smart Home kit will allow businesses and individuals to improve the energy efficiency of their home or building by managing energy and security remotely through the Shaspa Bridge. As a result, users will have the ability to automate many tasks such as setting alarms or adjusting air-conditioners - all via an interactive interface that can be accessed using the Internet, a mobile device or even 3D applications such as gesture control. Additionally, current pilot studies have shown significant reduction in energy usage while maintaining the same quality of service.

The low-powered 'In Home' Shaspa Bridge acts as a central hub, which processes data from a large selection of sensors and actuators such as air conditioners, thermostats and lighting systems. Combined with the performance and reliability of the Informix database software and its native TimeSeries capability, a market-differentiating capability that optimizes management of time-oriented data, Shapsa is able to store more data and respond to consumer requests, faster and more accurately. Additionally, this data can be used for trend analysis to gain broad insight into customer behavior and increase efficiency of services.

'With the explosion of connected devices, the electronics industry is looking for cost-effective and efficient ways to add convenience and intelligence for a more intelligent home,' said Bruce Anderson, General Manager, Global Electronics Industry, IBM. 'By using the Shapsa Bridge with Informix in an embedded environment Tatung is able to deliver reliable and easier to use applications for the home of the future.' The Shaspa Bridge has everything necessary for smart instrumentation. It can control any building or environment and implement features required for configuring devices and for the monitoring and control of those systems and appliances.

'This is an important milestone towards a more user / application oriented customer enablement. With this technology available we can not get to a point which drastically reduces the time to market for our customers. Levering the broad industry know how that the parties bring to the table, combined with the robust, secure and scalable service delivery framework,' said Oliver Goh, CEO of Shaspa.

Live demonstrations of the technology can be seen at the IBM Booth at the IFA in Berlin (6.-11. September 2013).
