DECC statement to Parliament in September for DCCAug 28, 2013 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- SMi's 3rd annual Telecoms for Smart Grids conference, taking place on 23-24 September in London, will address current developments in smart grid communications and data infrastructures for Utilities. The two-day programme will bring together an array of senior industry figures from both UK and European Utilities to discuss these developments and more including UK Power Networks, Alliander, Scottish and Southern Energy, ESB, Western Power Distribution, Scottish Power, E.ON, RWE AG, Enel Distribuzione SpA, Stedin, and Eco Island. London - The Department of Energy and Climate Change announced on 14 August the preferred bidders for the competitions it has conducted on behalf of industry to put in place the shared infrastructure needed to roll out smart meters across Great Britain. These competitions will put in place the Data and Communications Company which is responsible for linking 53 million smart electricity and gas meters in homes and small businesses with the business systems of energy suppliers, network operators and energy service companies. DECC expects to make a statement to Parliament in early September once contracts have successfully been concluded. DECC expects suppliers to be ready to start their full scale roll-out by autumn 2015, supported by the DCC services, with the mass roll-out completed by the end of 2020.
