Daintree Networks Advances ControlScope with Open Automated Demand Response 2.0 Certification

LOS ALTOS, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Daintree Networks, the leading provider of networked wireless control solutions for smart buildings, today announced that it has passed all compliance testing of the new OpenADR2.0a profile specification. Certification ensures that Daintree's ControlScope solution can receive OpenADR2.0a signals from any certified OpenADR 2.0a server and act on those signals using ZigBee wireless mesh control to curtail multi-application energy consumption throughout a single or multi-site environment.

Demand Response (DR) technology provides a mechanism to maintain balance between supply and demand throughout the Smart Grid. OpenADR is an open and standardized way for utilities and customers to communicate effectively to improve energy efficiency, reduce cost and increase reliability.

ControlScope provides customers more granular control of their energy usage by enabling commercial and industrial facility managers to use lighting, HVAC, and plug load control strategies to respond automatically to an OpenADR event. Acting as the automation client, ControlScope communicates with the OpenADR server, receiving R signals over the Internet and responding with pre-programmed control strategies, enabling a demand response event to be fully automated, with no manual intervention.

With OpenADR compliance designed into ControlScope, California business owners and operators can easily comply with the new Title 24 California Energy Code, in effect Jan 1, 2014. The changes to Title 24 state that all buildings greater than 10,000 square feet should have the capability to receive and automatically respond to standards-based messaging protocols, such as OpenADR, to reduce lighting power by at least 15% below the building's maximum lighting power during peak demand times.

"The cornerstone of any standard is its ability to support interoperability between vendors in the marketplace," says Barry Haaser, managing director of the OpenADR Alliance. "We are pleased to be working with Daintree Networks to enable the use of the OpenADR standard and lower automation costs within facilities, empowering customers to implement Demand Response strategies that will reward them for responding to fluctuations in the electrical supply."

"It is exciting for Daintree to join the certification program along with other members to help elevate the OpenADR standard to promote interoperability and industry adoption," says Jason Choong, Daintree's Chief Solution Architect and Vice President of Product Management. "As smart building pioneers, Daintree has always believed that open standards drive innovation, creating simpler, more powerful, and cost-effective solutions.
