Vol State Contest Brings in High School AutoCAD Students


(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) GALLATIN, Tenn., April 25 -- Volunteer State Community College issued the following news: AutoCAD is a specialized software program that provides computer-aided design and drafting for architects and engineers. Recently, area high school students came to Volunteer State Community College to compete in an AutoCAD contest. The event was held in the college AutoCAD lab using AutoCAD 2013. Each competitor was given three hours to complete an ambitious residential drawing project. Josh Beattie, a junior at Mt. Juliet High School, took first place and was the recipient of the first annual Lowe Engineering Award. The award recognizes Edgar Lowe, professor emeritus and founding engineering faculty member at Vol State. Lowe, who joined the faculty in 1971, continues to teach Statistics and Dynamics in the engineering program following his retirement. Second place in the competition went to Jesse Gibboney, a Westmoreland High School senior. The competition was organized by Vol State AutoCAD instructor Brian Reifschneider, CEO of Blue Ridge Surveying Company in Gallatin. The second annual competition will be held at Vol State in spring of 2014.
