PCTEL Recognized for New York City Subway DAS Network

BLOOMINGDALE, Ill. --(Business Wire)--

PCTEL (News - Alert), Inc. (NASDAQ: PCTI), a leader in simplifying wireless and site solutions for private and public networks, announced today its participation in the Transit Wireless launch event of the newly deployed New York City Subway communication network. The launch event was conducted in Times Square earlier today. The new state-of-the- art broadband network will support mobile voice and data communication on the mass transit system. It will be one of the largest Distributed Antenna System (DAS) deployments globally. The launch event commemorates completion of the first phase of the network's deployment.

Transit Wireless designs, constructs, owns and operates the subway station wireless communications network and acts as a neutral host for extending a variety of wireless carrier services to NYCTA's more than 1.6 billion riders annually. The network will extend cellular and Wi-Fi coverage to all 277 underground NYC subway stations, support public safety and location based emergency services, provide a backbone for digital advertising, and will vastly improve data throughput and capacity.

"PCTEL designs and develops specialized antennas for in-building, public safety, and campus coverage," said Marty Singer, PCTEL's chairman and CEO. "We are delighted to be the antenna supplier to Transit Wireless and the New York City Subway System and believe that our state-of-the-art MIMO antennas will enhance consumer and passenger experience," added Singer.

"PCTEL has proven to be an excellent antenna partner supporting the design and deployment of this complex network, very rapidly adapting their products to achieve strict performance and environmental requirements for the subway wireless system," said Bill Bayne, Tansit Wireless CEO.

PCTEL and Transit Wireless are pursuing opportunities in Toronto, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Marty Singer, Mary Cook - PCTEL's Account Executive supporting Transit Wireless, and Ana Bakas - the company's product manager for the custom MIMO antenna, attended the launch event in New York.
