Papertrail at Heroku Waza: Log Management Now Trusted by Thousands of Apps

SAN FRANCISCO --(Business Wire)--

In advance of the Heroku Waza conference in San Francisco, Papertrail Inc. announced that its Papertrail cloud-hosted log management service has been adopted by thousands of applications on the Heroku platform.

"We're thrilled and honored that so many developers, entrepreneurs, and enterprises have selected Papertrail to obtain deep visibility into their Heroku Web services," said Troy Davis, co-founder and CEO.

"In about 10 seconds, any Heroku user can obtain detailed, infinitely customizable knowledge of what their applications are actually doing, in a format that's meaningful to them," he added.

Log messages give engineers the deeper story behind infrastructure problems, such as to identify the causes of slow performance, determine the impact of a software bug, and investigate API-level conversations between interdependent services.

Log management provides end-to-end application awareness that developers can tailor to their service's operational characteristics. That flexibility is critical when troubleshooting complex distributed services.

Davis, who spoke at the first Heroku Waza in 2012, said, "Heroku makes logging easy, and Papertrail gives engineers the tools to understand and react to these events. Now Papertrail has been proven in thousands of Heroku Web services."

With Heroku's "polyglot" Cedar application stack, developers and devops engineers can deploy and scale any common application stack, such as Ruby on Rails, Java servlets, PHP, Python with Django, and Scala with Play. That adaptability calls for powerful, understandable troubleshooting tools which work across all languages and stacks, a need which Papertrail on Heroku satisfies. Additionally, developers can use their preferred logging library, like Java logback or log4j, Ruby lograge, Python SysLogHandler, or Winston for Node.js.

"Papertrail makes engineers more productive because it was created to solve the real problems that we had encountered ourselves," said Eric Lindvall, CTO of Papertrail. To help users make the most of their logs, Papertrail recently added effortless log filtering and a Dashboard Finder quick navigation interface.

Lindvall noted that, "Heroku customers appreciate practicality and they value their own time. As thousands of engineers have seen, activating Papertrail on Heroku really is a single command."

Papertrail staff will be available at the Heroku Waza conference on February 28, 2013. Papertrail is currently available in the Heroku Add-on Marketplace and as a standalone service.

Papertrail Inc. operates the Papertrail hosted log management service, which brings smiles to the faces of systems engineers, developers, and entrepreneurs. Everyone deserves great logging. Sign up and log to the cloud™ at http://papertrailapp.com/
