___ US new-home sales jump to highest in 4 1/2 years US-New-Home-Sales WASHINGTON _ U.S. new-home sales jumped in January from the previous month to the highest level since July 2008, a sign that the housing recovery is accelerating.The Commerce Department said Tuesday that new-home sales rose nearly 16 per cent in January to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 437,000. (TSX:FR) estimates its output this year will be nearly 40 per cent higher than in 2012 which was, in turn, 20 per cent higher than in 2011. (TSX:CFW) saw its fourth-quarter profit plunge 86 per cent as its revenue declined 25 per cent in the face of reduced activity and lower prices in the U.S. and Canadian oilpatch. Calgary-based Calfrac, which provides services to the energy industry, said net income attributable to shareholders in the three months ended Dec. 31 fell to $11.2 million or 25 cents per diluted share.

___ Gran Tierra nets $42.2 million in Q4 Gran-Tierra CALGARY _ Gran Tierra Energy Inc. (TSX:GTE) says it made $42.2 million in the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2012, or 15 cents per diluted share. That's an 30 per cent improvement over the $32.5 million in net income, or 12 cents per share, in the same period a year earlier.
