QNX Demos New Industrial Reference Platforms for Faster Application Development at Embedded World 2013

(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NUREMBERG, GERMANY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 02/26/13 -- Embedded World (Hall 5/5-333) - This week at Embedded World, QNX Software Systems Limited, a global leader in software platforms for connected embedded systems, will showcase pre-integrated software components and tools that can help reduce the costs and effort of developing mission-critical embedded applications for the industrial, automotive, and medical device markets.

QNX Software Systems will demonstrate its advanced software solutions with leading technology partners, including Acontis, Crank Software, Digia, Freescale, KDAB, koenig-pa, KW-Software, MPC Data/Bsquare, Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI), and Xilinx.

Demos at the QNX stand include: Programmable logic controller (PLC) platforms - QNX Software Systems has collaborated with several partners to build two pre-integrated PLC reference platforms that can speed the development of PLCs and other industrial control applications. The platforms integrate the QNX® Neutrino® RTOS from QNX Software Systems; ladder logic and EtherCAT software from companies such as IsaGRAF, KW-Software, and koenig-pa; and hardware such as the Freescale QorIQ® TWR-P1025 Tower System Module and TI Sitara™ AM335x ARM™ Cortex™-A8 processor.

Multimedia and communications demos - QNX Software Systems will demonstrate its rich wireless, video, and HMI support on Freescale i.MX 6 SABRE Lite and TI AM335 Starter Kit boards. The demos highlight how the QNX platform allows developers to work with a variety of application and graphics environments, including the Qt 5.0 application framework, the OpenGL ES 2.0 API for accelerated 3D graphics, and Crank Software's Storyboard Suite. The demos feature several applications - including a medical monitor, digital instrument cluster, and digital thermostat - as well as support for H.264 and MP4 video, and for Wi-Fi® and Ethernet communications.

QNX CAR™ platform demo - This pre-integrated software stack is designed to reduce the effort of building advanced infotainment systems for the connected car. Features include an auto-centric HTML5 framework for leveraging the mobile ecosystem, integration with popular smartphone platforms, high-definition hands-free communication, advanced personalization options, as well as integrated partner technologies for hybrid navigation, natural speech recognition, streaming Internet radio, weather reporting, FOTA (Firmware Over-The-Air) software updates, and Bluetooth® profiles.

The demo will show a Yaskawa Sigma-5 EtherCAT drive running in cyclic synchronous velocity mode. To see the demo, visit the IXXAT Automation GmbH stand, Hall 1/1-538.

Crank Software will showcase an automotive demo that features a center stack and digital instrument cluster created with the Crank Storyboard Suite for user interface development. The demo runs on the QNX CAR application platform. Visit Hall 4/4-330.

Digia - Digia will demonstrate the latest release of the Qt application & UI framework, Qt 5, running on a Freescale i.MX 6 quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor. The demo, "Qt 5 on the QNX platform - a Cinematic Experience," will show many of the new Qt 5 Qt Quick 2 graphics features, such as particles, sprites path animation, and custom shaders, all within a native application where maximum performance can be extracted from the underlying hardware. Visit the Qt by Digia stand, Hall 4/4 - 520.

Freescale and koenig-pa will demonstrate a PLC reference platform that integrates koenig-pa EtherCAT protocol software, ISaGRAF PLC firmware, and the QNX Neutrino RTOS on a Freescale dual-core QorIQ P1025 processor. The EtherCAT Master stack in this demo supports 1 millisecond cycle times while using less than 1% of a core on the P1025 processor. Visit the Freescale stand, Hall 4A/4A-206, and koenig-pa stand, Hall 5/5-425. For more information, visit www.freescale.com/goPLC.

KDAB - KDAB will showcase an application to display, record, and control video signals from an IP camera written in Qt5 and QML. The user interface and control software run on the QNX Neutrino RTOS and a Freescale i.MX 6 SABRE Lite ARM Cortex-A9 platform. Visit Hall 4/4-622.

KW-Software will demonstrate a PLC development platform developed in collaboration with QNX Software Systems, TI, and koenig-pa. This integrated platform is designed to facilitate the building of industrial control applications. Visit the KW-Software stand, Hall 1/1-446.

MPC Data/Bsquare - MPC Data, a Bsquare Company, will showcase a high-performance graphics demo based on OpenGL and the QNX Neutrino RTOS. Visit the Future Electronics stand, Hall 4A/4A-108.
