Broomfield Chamber dinner toasts success, looks toward future

Feb 01, 2013 (Broomfield Enterprise - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Broomfield Chamber of Commerce's annual dinner celebrated business success while touting a new program meant to beef up business strategies for one local business.

The annual dinner, open to chamber members, Thursday at the Renaissance Boulder FlatIron Hotel, applauded a year of strengthening business, opening a new resource center and putting together new programs to help Broomfield businesses become more successful.

"Broomfield is thriving, and the Broomfield Chamber is thriving," said Tom Orlando, chair of the chamber's board of directors. "We have our eyes set on making this the best year for businesses." Chamber president Jennifer Kerr and Business Resource Center executive director Mike Saunders applauded the launch of the Business Resource Center, a new center for businesses to get guidance on finance, marketing, social media and other tools.

The center offers a list of classes ranging from employment law, productivity and networking tricks. It also provides one-on-one consulting and office space for businesses to use "to work on their business rather than in their business," Saunders said.

Using a tongue-in-cheek video that riffed off Donald Trump's popular reality TV show "The Apprentice," Kerr and Saunders also highlighted the Broomfield Apprentice, a new program that will help a selected business with an injection of new strategies and resources to help it grow.

Broomfield's Canine Rehabilitation and Conditioning Group, or CRCG, which provides physical therapy for dogs, was named the winning Broomfield Apprentice business during a video presentation at the dinner.

CRCG will undergo the specialized, 10-part program through the Chamber, Business Resource Center and a Broomfield leadership group to help hone its marketing, strengthen its branding and build stronger relationships with clients.

CRCG president Lori Beuerle said the program will help her three locations become more visible to diverse clients. Her company helps healthy dogs by offering swim fitness classes and injured dogs who need physical therapy, because of old age or surgeries. The Broomfield facility offers an underwater treadmill for dogs, physical therapy classes and other features.

"We're always growing, but we hope to grow more than in the past," she said. "This is the year to make it big." CRCG will work with the Chamber's leadership group and advisors from the North Metro Small Business Development Corp. to complete the Broomfield Apprentice program.

The Broomfield Apprentice sessions will be videotaped and condensed into a TV show-style video for other businesses to use as a guide for their own improvement.

It also adds a more hands-on element for those involved in the chamber's leadership program, which invites people to build their leadership skills while learning more about the Broomfield community, Kerr said.

The chamber dinner is an annual event that provides a snapshot of the past year in business, but Kerr said she is also looking forward to the year to come.

The chamber will continue to work on Think Broomfield, a shop local program that urges users to "eat, play, shop, stay" in Broomfield.

Kerr said a renewed focus on the program will serve as a tourist driver for the city.

The chamber this year also will focus on continued partnerships with businesses and an effort to bring more businesses into the chamber group, she said.

"This is your chamber, and we're here for you," she said.
