Verizon announces completion of USD301m investment in network enhancements in Washington DC, Maryland & Virginia in 2012


Feb 01, 2013 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- US wireless communication services company Verizon Wireless on Thursday announced the completion of USD301.4m in wireless network enhancements in Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia in 2012.

This investment has increased Verizon's regional network investment to over USD3.0bn since its inception in 2000.

Verizon said, that during 2012, it expanded its 4G LTE network, which offers speeds ten times faster than 3G networks, to over 470 markets nationwide. Regional markets where the company activated its 4G LTE service in 2012 included Harrisonburg, Martinsville, Staunton, Danville, Fredericksburg, Lynchburg and Charlottesville in Virginia.



Nationally, Verizon has reportedly invested over USD80bn since its inception in 2000 to increase the coverage and capacity of its nationwide networks and to add new services.

According to Verizon, fast two years after its initial launch, its 4G LTE coverage includes 470 markets nationwide. Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) (Nasdaq:VZ) and Vodafone (LSE:VOD)(Nasdaq:VOD).
