MIPIM Unveils the MIPIM Innovation Forum

PARIS, Jan. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- MIPIM is launching the MIPIM Innovation Forum, a meeting place for sharing ideas and debate for everyone involved in building tomorrow's cities. This exclusive MIPIM programme puts buildings and users at the heart of this industry conversation in order to highlight the entire range of innovative solutions to maximize the value of property portfolios. Additionally, the Innovation Forum MIPIM will feature the "Porous city - Open the tower" exhibition presented at last year's Venice Biennale for the first time.

"Porous city - Open the tower" uses Lego towers to explore futuristic concepts of urban design imagined by the professor and architect Winy Maas, founder and director of the MVRDV architectural practice in Rotterdam and director of The Why Factory, a research institute for the city of the future. Nine three-metre high skyscrapers will rise up during the four days of the show, acting as visual support to debates on the new processes and the role of research in Europe's urban future. The exhibition is combined with the conference on urban design given by Winy Maas on Wednesday, 13 March at 10:00am.

Organised by Reed MIDEM, a subsidiary of Reed Exhibitions, MIPIM will be held in Cannes from 12 to 15 March 2013.

"In the real estate sector today, we are seeing new players emerge with the skills and technological solutions to ensure that buildings will meet the new demands of users and investors. The MIPIM Innovation Forum aims to provide a meeting point for all real estate players focused on building innovation, creating a new momentum for making business contacts and sharing best practices," says Filippo Rean, Director of MIPIM.

The MIPIM Innovation Forum will host large international companies such as Cisco GDF Suez, IBM, Tata Steel, and Mitsubishi Electric, who play an increasingly active role in the innovative solutions proposed for building or city management. Barcelona and Brussels will also attend the programme.

The new 1,000 m2 pavilion in the Gare Maritime, next to the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, will include an exhibition area, a conference room and a contact making and discussion space. It will host the ADI (Association of French property managers), CoreNet Global, ISA (International Sustainability Alliance) and Crenet, a major end-user association. MIPIM brings together nearly 300 corporate real estate directors from major companies such as Alstom, Amazon, Danone, L'Oreal, Dell Corporation and Google.

The conferences to be held in the pavilion throughout MIPIM will revolve around three major themes: cities, smart buildings and energy efficiency. Experts such as Arab Hoballah, Head of Sustainable Consumption and Production in the Technology, Industry and Economics Division for the United Nations Program for the Environment, and Ralph DiNola, principal of Green Building Services, will share their expertise and views on these topics.

As vital industry partners, international architects will also speak at a conference in the pavilion on Thursday, 14 March. Carlo Ratti, the Italian architect and engineer who also teaches at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, where he directs the SENSEable City Laboratory, the German architect Jurgen Mayer H, winner of the Mies Van der Rohe Prize and founder of his architecture firm Jurgen Mayer H, the French architect Caroline Barat who, after exploring the world from Hong Kong to Rio de Janeiro, returned to Paris in 2005 and co-founded the Search Agency, Philippe Chiamberatta, founder of the PCA agency, and the Turkish architect Murat Tabanl oglu founder of Tabanlioglu agency, will all be speaking.

More than 30 lectures and 15 practical case studies will enable attendees to share solutions and concrete experiences of innovative buildings that have demonstrated their value and profitability. In addition, the finalists of the MIPIM Awards 2013 projects will have an opportunity to showcase their vision of innovation through their projects in 30 short graphic presentations in the "Innovators' vision - MIPIM Awards finalists screenings." Moreover, to kick-start the conversation and stimulate ideas, MIPIM is collaborating with the leading institutions of ESSEC (France) and Burnham Moores, University of San Diego (California), to compile articles about the latest news and trends in innovation and sustainable development. See the selection of articles in the sustainable development section on MIPIM-World Blog.

Finally, the forum will also offer an exhibition space for Stereograph, an expert in architecture and virtual images, which will feature presentations of innovation through computer graphics, videos and virtual tours on 2D and 3D screens at the entrance to the MIPIM Innovation Forum. Digital technologies are used to model real estate projects and simulate, test, and evaluate services during the implementation phase, offering a glimpse of the features of future buildings.
