BRIEF: County upgrades jury communication systemJan 18, 2013 (The News-Sentinel (Fort Wayne - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The Allen Superior Court has updated its jury system by installing what is believed to be the country's first interactive mobile messaging application utilizing "natural language processing" (NLP). NLP is the ability of software systems to recognize and interpret the meaning of human text and speech. In addition to sending standard juror reporting confirmation/cancellation alerts, the technology enables the jury system server to receive questions in the form of text or email messages from a potential juror in "everyday language," evaluate the meaning and provide an accurate response. Jurors can receive diverse reporting information by texting or emailing inquiries such as, "where do I park ", "when do I report ", "how do I get there " etc. They can even request weather reports, traffic conditions and link to Google Maps to allow GPS navigation from their current location to their reporting site. The Courts' jury management software vendor since year 2002, Judicial Systems, Inc. of Tyler, Texas, invited the court to collaborate on the final development and testing of this new application.
