CableLabs Appoints New VP of Communications


Jan 18, 2013 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- CableLabs, a non-profit research and development consortium for the cable industry, announced it has appointed talented technology industry veteran, Wayne Surdam, as the vice president of communications.



According to a release, Surdam's hire comes after a string of organizational announcements including the hire of Phil McKinney as president and CEO and the addition of a new CableLabs' lab in Silicon Valley.

CableLabs said Surdam brings a range of experience in the enterprise, consumer and vertical markets within the personal computer, software, networking and telecommunications industries to CableLabs. He also brings international experience, expanding companies into Europe, Asia Pacific and South Asia; including the rebuild of Hewlett-Packard's (HP) global public relations program and management of its global customer advisory councils.

Prior to joining CableLabs, the Company noted that Surdam served as the vice president of HP's media and influencer relations for the personal systems group. Surdam also held the position of vice president of strategic marketing and alliances for the carrier network group at Alcatel. Prior to Alcatel, Surdam was the vice president of marketing at Newbridge Networks where he effectively positioned the company for acquisition by Alcatel. Earlier in his career, Surdam was a director of marketing of IOS technologies and software initiatives at Cisco Systems and held the position of senior director of the power Macintosh division at Apple Computer, Inc.
