Optima Telekom, stated to be Croatia's second-largest telecommunications provider, covers more than 100 cities and towns, and is delivering a wide range of services to both residential and business customers.
It is being helped by CounterPath (News - Alert), whose Bria mobile softphone application is powering Tornado, Optima Telekom's new OTT VoIP service.

Tornado enables Optima Telekom subscribers to stay connected with friends, family or colleagues regardless of where they are. Users can call any fixed or mobile number device at a fixed rate, reducing costly roaming charges and preventing excessive mobile bills.

According to Todd Carothers, executive vice president of marketing and products at CounterPath, the Tornado service demonstrated the versatility of Bria, as Optima was able to develop customized and tailored softphone solutions to meet the individual needs and specific requirements of its customers.

'The Bria softphone exceeded our requirements regarding security, stability and flexibility. We are very pleased to have chosen CounterPath as our solutions provider,' noted Goran Jovicic, chief technology officer at Optima Telekom.

Bria, built to provide a high-quality, unified communications experience and voice and video calls over fixed, mobile and Wi-Fi broadband networks, allows seamless switching between the networks and ensures business connectivity. Users can see the availability of contacts, send instant messages and even transfer files easily and efficiently.

Built on SIP and open standards, Bria has been proven interoperable with many of the industry's standard platforms and devices.

Tornado is currently available for Android (News - Alert) and iOS smartphones via 3G/4G or Wi-Fi networks. In addition to voice calls, Tornado also supports video calls, instant messaging and presence.

Recognized for its quality and reliable VoIP software solutions, CounterPath boasts award-winning solutions that empower major customers, and the current partnership is yet another example of the company's ability to develop unique solutions of all sizes of operators.

A developer of desktop, tablet and mobile VoIP software products and solutions, CounterPath's Bria softphone is also powering Network Norway's all-new Mobil IP service.

It reportedly allows users to make and receive calls using a range of devices without incurring per minute roaming charges by routing calls through a VoIP exchange.
