Company lays off staff on CapeHYANNIS, Jan 12, 2013 (Cape Cod Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A California telecommunications technology company with operations in Hyannis announced it has laid off 13 percent of its entire staff worldwide this week, including some on the Cape. That translates to 95 jobs across the company. Dialogic Inc. spokesman Jim Machi declined to say how many people were laid off in Hyannis but said it was "quite a few people." Companywide, some of the staff will remain for weeks, he said. Dialogic's local facility is at 75 Perseverance Way, Hyannis, he said. Those who were laid off were engineers, Machi said. Information technology and support staff remain at Dialogic's Cape facility. Machi declined to say how many people work at the Cape location. Machi said the job cuts stemmed from products that were not selling well. In Hyannis, the company's engineers worked on electronic equipment for the telecommunications industry. Dialogic, which has its headquarters in Milpitas, Calif., also has locations in New Jersey, Texas and Virginia. Its other Massachusetts location is in Needham. It also has operations in Brazil and Canada and an office in Florida that represents Central and South America. The Hyannis operation has local roots, founded in 1988 as Excel Switching Corp. by Osterville resident Robert Madonna. Lucent Technologies bought Excel in 1999, and four years later, a group of private investors bought Excel from Lucent. Excel and Brooktrout Technology merged, becoming Cantata Technology, in 2006. Cantata laid off undisclosed numbers of workers at its Hyannis facility in November 2006 and again in June 2007.
