BRIEF: Fire crews respond to West Odessa fire

Jan 09, 2013 (Odessa American - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A fire caused heavy smoke and heat damage to a West Odessa automotive shop on Tuesday afternoon.

No one was hurt in the blaze, which began at about 2 p.m., Battalion Chief Danny Wyatt said. Firefighters extinguished the fire within about 5 minutes.

But the interior of Kar Doktors, 7188 W. University Blvd., was badly damaged, Wyatt said, including the motorcycles inside.

The fire began in an east corner of the structure, where a pile of mechanical parts rested.

But the cause of the fire was not immediately clear, and the shop owner -- a former firefighter -- said nothing was plugged in near the area where the fire started, Wyatt said.
