Meet new Tribune Co. board


Dec 31, 2012 (Chicago Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A new seven-member board of directors that includes media executives, financiers and an entertainment lawyer has been named to oversee Tribune Co., which will emerge from bankruptcy Monday.



Peter Liguori: After joining what was a small basic cable channel in 1998, Liguori was elevated to chief executive of FX Networks in 2001 and transformed the network by offering such original programming as "The Shield," "Nip/Tuck" and "Rescue Me," building ratings and revenues in the process.

He most recently served as chief operating officer of Discovery Communications. Before joining Discovery in 2009, Liguori served as chairman of entertainment for Fox Broadcasting Co.


Peter Murphy: Murphy is the founder of Wentworth Capital Management, a venture capital firm focused on media, technology and consumer businesses. Murphy previously served as president, strategy and development of Caesars Entertainment. He also spent 18 years at The Walt Disney Co. in senior executive roles. Murphy is a director of New York-based Dial Global Inc., which provides content to more than 8,500 radio stations nationwide.

Bruce Karsh: Once an appellate clerk to Anthony Kennedy, now a Supreme Court justice, Karsh is co-founder of alternative investments firm Oaktree Capital Management. Karsh serves on the board of directors of Charter Communications and Oaktree Capital Group. He also serves as the chairman of the board of directors for Duke University's investment management company.

Kenneth Liang: Liang is a managing director and head of restructurings for Oaktree's distressed debt group.

From Oaktree's formation in 1995 until June 2001, Liang was Oaktree's general counsel.

He has a bachelor's in business finance and economics from the University of Southern California and a law degree from Georgetown University.

Ross Levinsohn: Levinsohn most recently served as interim CEO at Yahoo Inc.

Before that post he was executive vice president of the Americas region for Yahoo. He served as co-founder and managing director of Fuse Capital. He previously served as president of News Corp.'s Fox Interactive Media.

Craig Jacobson: Jacobson was elected to the board of directors of Charter Communications in 2010.

He's a founding partner at the law firm of Hansen Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush and Kaller LLP, where he has practiced entertainment law for the past 25 years. He's also on the board of Expedia Inc., and was a director of Ticketmaster from August 2008 until its merger with Live-Nation Inc. in January 2010.

Eddy Hartenstein: The Los Angeles Times publisher has been CEO of Tribune Co. since May 2011. He's also a former CEO of DirecTV. Previously, Hartenstein was vice president of Hughes Communications and president of a Hughes-owned subsidiary founded to develop direct-to-home satellite TV service.
