Silver Spring expands Smart Energy Platform to support natural gas usersDec 28, 2012 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- Silver Spring Networks, a provider of networking platform and solutions, has announced that it is expanding the capabilities of its Smart Energy Platform to support commercial and industrial natural gas users. The new Silver Spring Commercial and Industrial Gas IMU (Interface Management Unit) supports an array of C&I natural gas endpoint devices and is designed for the needs of C&I customers. Silver Spring is also offering a new version of its existing Residential Gas IMU solution to support additional communications options and more cost-effective alternatives. With fully encrypted and secure two-way communications, Silver Spring's Gas IMU solutions enable automated alerts on system status, leak monitoring, meter tampering and other critical events, cutting utility labor costs and ensuring system reliability. Based on open standards, the Silver Spring Gas IMU solutions seamlessly integrate with utilities' wider smart grid modernization efforts, the company said. "Silver Spring's IPv6 networking platform connects more than 13 million homes and businesses worldwide, so it's a natural step for us to extend support to C&I natural gas customers and to broaden the communications options for residential gas users," said C.J.
