CHBC Beats Altamont, Loses To BCC

Dec 17, 2012 (Shelbyville Daily Union - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- SHELBYVILLE, Ill. -- CHBC has handled just about every team this year, except in the marquee match-ups. That trend continued Thursday and Saturday. CHBC had little trouble with Altamont on Thursday winning, 62-36. On Saturday, they lost a marquee event against Bloomington Central Catholic, 69-57.

CHBC was led by Micah Jones with 22 points on Thursday, scoring nine times from the floor and making 4-of-5 at the line. Autumn Riley continued her uptick in scoring with 14 points, including 4-of-6 at the stripe. Ava Paruleski, also was in double figures, besides running the offense. She had 11 points, with one trey and 2-of-2 at the line.

Altamont's Madison Ohnesorge matched Jones for game-high honors, scoring inside the arc, outside the arc and making 7-of-11 foul shots. But, she was the only Altamont player in double figures.

Saturday, the Hornets took a step into the stratosphere taking on BCC. Last year's state runner-up team very well could have beaten BCC. But after several graduations, the Hornets are still getting to the place where they cannot only contend with top regional teams, but win. There only losses have been to Central A&M, Pana, Teutopolis, and BCC, all within contending margins.

The Hornets started like a swarm against BCC, with an impressive 21-11 run. After getting their bearings, BCC came back with a 25-14 run to take a slim 36-35 lead at the break. BCC's genie was out of the bottle at that point and had a 24-11 run in the 3rd to increase their lead to 14 points, heading down the stretch. CHBC didn't quit and they cut the lead by a bucket before the final buzzer.

One thing BCC was able to do was hold Micah Jones to just 14 points. But they weren't able to stop Autumn Riley, who had a career-high and game-high 25 points. Riley scored 10 times from the field, including a triple and went 4-of-6 at the line. Paruleski chipped in another 11 points, including a pair of treys.
