Access Equipment Revenue Grows Modestly in the Third Quarter, According to Dell'Oro Group

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Dec. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- According to a newly published report by Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, third quarter revenue for Access gear (Cable + Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) + Passive Optical Network (PON)) including infrastructure equipment and customer premises equipment (CPE) showed moderate 6 percent growth over the year ago period. Within this total, PON revenue achieved the highest growth at 21 percent, while Cable grew 5 percent. Although softening ADSL trends pulled the total DSL market revenue down, VDSL revenues shot up more than 30 percent versus the year ago period.

(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20101012/SF80035LOGO ) "We saw strong growth from three segments in the third quarter. PON revenue surged to a record level, largely driven by strong GPON shipments to China, continuing the trend of the last several years," said Steve Nozik, Principal Analyst of Access research at Dell'Oro Group. "Cable revenue growth was driven by strong DOCSIS 3.0 CPE sales that more than offset sharply lower CMTS sales. For DSL, high-speed VDSL port shipments grew more than 50% over the year ago period driven by Western Europe, where a number of operators have chosen a fiber-to-the-node (FTTN) upgrade strategy utilizing VDSL," Nozik added.

The report shows that in the third quarter, Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei, and ZTE were the top three vendors in terms of GPON revenue, however, with shipments to China excluded, that Calix takes the number three position. For VDSL port shipments, Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei and ADTRAN were the top vendors. In the Cable arena, Cisco remained the dominant supplier for CMTS while Arris led Cable CPE.
