Finland : NOKIA to redefine WHERE [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Nokia has released a maps app designed for Apple devices namely the iPhone, iPad and the iPod Touch.

The app which is available for free on iTunes, is compatible with gadgets that operate on iOS 4.3 or the latter variants. It will come with offline capacities, voice-guided walk navigation, and public transit directions.

The Finnish phone-maker has also unveiled an Android operating system-based app and announced plans for the launch of tools for Android device makers in early 2013. This is aimed towards helping partners to develop location-based apps for Android devices with Nokia's location and mapping content. The new mapping offerings have been placed under a new service called HERE.

Moreover, Nokia is also collaborating with Mozilla to bring new site experiences to the Firefox OS. The phone-maker will debut a mobile Web version of HERE Maps for the new Firefox OS in 2013.

Leveraging its mapping technology, Nokia is trying to redefine the 'where' segment to help people explore the world around them, through all this.

Its following in the footsteps of search engines such as Google and Bing who redefined the 'what' category and Facebook which redefined the who category.
